As usual, my disorganisation caught up with me. As I went to pay the backpacker with my card, he wanted cash and my bus was due to pick me up in 5 minutes. A quick dash in a tuk-tuk to the ATM fixed my money problem and conveniently, the bus was waiting for me when I got back – oopsy….

When I got to Battambang, I walked to the hotel, which wasn’t far, and checked in. I decided to pay a bit more for a hotel in Battambang. My hotel room was huge, but average decor. After asking the staff about recommended tourist sights, the plan was;  a leisurely bike ride around the city, and the circus at night. So, a quick, cool shower later I was hiring a bike and exploring the temples around the city.

To be honest, I felt a bit conspicuous and uncomfortable walking around the temples, and Battambang was the only place on all my travels I didn’t really enjoy. I booked a bus to move onto Phnom Penh the next day.

As I rushed out to get into the Tuk-tuk to go to the circus, the hotel staff told me I would be sharing with a couple. As I walked to the tuk-tuk I heard my name being called. The couple in the taxi were the Holland couple I went to Prasat Preah Vihear with. What a lovely surprise!! The circus was worth the visit for sure!!

After the circus, I took a tuk-tuk at the hotel and decided to go for a walk while it was still light. It started to get darker, and I was far from the hotel. I walked further into the city and looked for somewhere to eat. By now, it was 9:30. I found one little place and ate a rice dish, then headed back about 10pm to the hotel. The streets were deserted. I found myself alone and thought briefly about it probably being a bit dangerous, especially after seeing some dogs in packs in the streets. Haha! It occurred to me this was now the 2nd time in a week in Cambodia I was roaming around at night in possibly a dangerous situation..

And in the  morning, how should I be awoken but by a bang on my door. It was ……….. , Rocky, the American lady from Prasat Preah Vihear. She told me the Holland couple had told her I was there. We exchanged a few words and I got her business card to meet up again in Phnom Penh before she ran off to catch her taxi 🙂 And me my bus to Phnom Pehn, with Paramount Angkor Express. The bus was fine to travel on. No problems at all 🙂
